In this topic we cover the likely causes, symptons, and signs of Xerostomia in the oral cavity, and the best possible treatments and managements to suit individuals.
One in four of us may suffer with a dry mouth, resulting in unnecessary unpleasant symptoms. If untreated it can lead to further adverse effects on our general health. Dry mouths effect denture wearers. There are many underlying causes of a dry mouth.
CASE STUDY
A lady who was normally socialising, and enjoying her food, had become withdrawn, anti-social, depressed, loss of self-esteem, refusing her meals, losing weight, and refusing to wear her dentures. She was prescribed extra anti-depressants.
Further investigation revealed that she was suffering from a ‘dry mouth’, this being the soul cause of her problems. Her condition was addressed and treated appropriately, without invasive treatment.
Within weeks, the lady was able to wear her dentures, eat, gain weight, talk, socialise, returned to her happy original character. Self esteem restored!
